Remember the last long discussion you had on a strange subject, when everybody had a different opinion and the meeting finished with a sense of non achievement.
Now one day as I was in such a uncomfortable meeting that was dragging too long, I said "Let me show you what I have done so far, that's how it can be improved. Let's review it and take it from there."
That went on to be a much more constructive conversation. Rather than diverging into many different directions, everybody agreed this was a good way to proceed and a plan was quickly made to build on top of the new code.
