Should you do fake demos?

You're planning on going to an event and you want to show your product is the best and that's normal. But if you only show your current state of progress no one is going to be impressed, let alone to buy it. Does that mean you should tell lies to attract attention?

If you have to fake it, do it well so that people truly believe you

Some people aren't afraid of faking product features before they actually work. After all fake publicity is better than no publicity at all! Don't let these people shine over you, so you should talk about your work in progress. But make clear this is work in progress!

Don't promise the impossible too. If by chance you attract interest, you'll have to deliver else you'll loose more credibitiliy than if you had never said anything.
