Patent and new start-ups

Do you have a great idea and you don't know if it's patentable? It's easy: if you have a technical answer to a technical problem then you can start looking if a patent already exists.

Otherwise don't let it jeopardise your project, as even if you have a patent that doesn't mean you're safe. You have to be a big company else people will never be frightened of you. Patent wars cost a lot of money...

In any case continue to do early demos, you'll gain much more from showing parts of your prototype than to hide it completely. Patents are never required to start with and can be worked out once you've more visibility, e.g. cash, users, roadmap.
